“Looking is free”. “What you looking for?” “Just a minute in my shop”. You don’t have to be in the red-walled medina of Marrakesh long before a shopkeeper or tout will distract your attention. After a week exploring the colourful souks and dodging the carnival of characters that befriend green-eyed newcomers to this city (snakecharmers, castanet-clanging water sellers, turbaned potion-sellers) Marrakesh has defeated me. In a good way that is. I’m jumping back on the bike tomorrow and heading into the High Atlas – last real mountains for a long time.
As well as the now familiar slideshow, I’ve managed to upload some audio recordings from Marrakesh. The first is the Muezzin sounding the call to prayer and the second is from the Djemaa el Fna, the heart of Marrakesh. Let me know what you think.

Hi Peter
Fantastic photos of Marakesh, looks great, and lovely touch with the sound recordings. It’s inspired me to go out onto the streets of Istanb ul and do the same…not quite as authentic though..
Enjoying following your progress…good luck and keep it up!

Thanks Oli, Interested to see how much Cricket you play between Turkey and Kenya. The cricket bat might come in useful for the kids on the Kings Highway in Jordan, should you cycle that route. All the best

The audio recordings are fantastic Peter, great sound quality and a wonderful accompaniment to the photos. I’ve been wondering, is there any way to show the photo titles/captions alongside your photos in the slideshow?

Thanks. Would be good, Mum asked about that. At moment you have to click on photo – might have to use something other than flickr, which would be a pain. Will have a look when have time.

Thanks. Looking forward to climbing into the Atlas – will be cold at this time of year but plenty of heat ahead. Hope you’re both well.
